3、ntrifuga-tionsinCsC1supportedtheEMidentification.Densitiesassociatedwiththeidentifiedparticleswere:1.34g/mlforastrovirus,1.39g/mlfor"full"parvovirus,and1.24--1.26g/mlfor"typical"coronavirus.Convalescentserafromthepupsaggregatedthesethreeparticletypesasobserved
4、byimmunoelectronmicroscopy(IEM).Onlycoronavirus-likeparticleswerelaterdetectedinformedstoolsfromthesesamepups.Coronavirusandparvo-likcvirusesarcrecognizedagentsofcanineviralenteritis,however,astrovirushasnotbeenpreviouslyreportedindogs.IntroductionAnumberofvir
5、us-likeparticlesdetectedinfecalmaterialbyelectronmicro-scopy(EM)havebeenfoundtomanifestsufficientlydistinctmorphologytowarrantindividualclassification.Suchreadilyidentifiedagentsinclude:rota-virus(11),coronavirus(30),adenovirus(12),ealieivirus(20),andpossibly-
6、mini-reo/rotavirus(23,29).Astrovirus,anothercharacteristicagentidentifiedbyEIM,wasoriginallyassociatedwithinfantilegastroenteritis(18,19).Subsequentinvestigationsconfirmedtheidentificationofthisagentinstoolsofnewbornswithacutenon-bacterialgastroenteritis(16),a
7、ndinoutbreaksofgastroenteritisinvolvingchil-drenandadults(2,15).Virus-likeparticles,28--30nmindiameter,possessingthedistinctivestar-likesurfacemorphologyhavealsobeendetectedinthediarrhealfecesoflambs(27)andcalves(32).Thispaperreportsthedetectionofastrovirus-li
