3、lifesituationandthefragileeconomiesofmanyAfricancountries.Furthermore,droughthasaggravatedtheeconomiccrisisinmanyAfricancountriesbyintensifyingtheunemploymentproblem,depletinggovernmentrevenuesandthescarceforeignexchangeearningsandstymyingtheratesofgrowthofthemajorproductivesectorsand

4、oftheeconomyasawhole.Theabnormallydryyearshavealsoputextremepressureonvegetation;itisestimatedthattheusableextentofthepastoralareasinthearidandsemi-aridregionsinAfricahasbeenreducedby25percentsincetheonsetofthe1968drought.InmanyAfricancountriesinwhichlivestockwealthisofcrucialimportan

5、cetothenationaleconomyandthewelfareofthepopulation,livestockherdshavebeenbadlydepletedasaresultoftheshortageofpastureandwater,poorgrazingconditionsandanimaldiseases.Thetragicconsequencesofthedroughthavebeenfurtheraggravatedbyanincreaseddisruptioninthebalancebetweenthehuman/livestockpo

6、pulationontheonehandandphysicalresourcesontheother,broughtaboutbyincreasinghumanandlivestockpopulationpressuresontheshrinkingphysicalresourcesandbyharmfulhumanresponsestotheclimaticvariabilityanddroughtFurthermore,theimpactsofdroughtaremadedevastatinglyworsewhenitisconsideredthatthema
