4、)SummaryNeonatalcalfdiarrheaisasignificanthealthproblemindairyindustryinthewholeworld.Althoughtheaetiologicalagentsofneonataldiarrheaarediverse,itisobviousthatvirusesplayanimportantrole.Oneofthemisbovineconoravirus(BCV).SinceBCVwasdiscovered(MEBUSetal.,1
5、969),therehavebeenmanypublishedreportsdescribingthevirusanditsimportanceincalves.InChina,wefirstinvestigatedtheseroepidemiologicalstatusofBCVinfectionsincattle(YAOetal.,1990).TheresultsshowedthattheincidenceofinfectionswithBCVincattleindifferentChinesere
6、gionsarehigh.FurtherworkondirectdiagnosisofBCVasacausativeagentofdiarrheawasthereforenecessary.Inthelastyearswehavedevelopeddiagnosticmethodsincludingamonoclonalantibody-basedELISAtodetectBCVandotherdiarrhealviruses.Inthisstudy,thediagnosisofanoutbreakof
7、BCVinChinesedairycattleisdescribed.ClinicalAspectsInearly1989,anoutbreakofcalfdiarrheaoccurredinadairyherdinNanjing,southeasternChina,affectingcalvesuptotwomonthsofage.Themorbiditywas98.9YO(78outof79calves)andthemortalitywas10.1%(8outof79calves).Of78affe
8、ctedcalves,73were1-20daysoldandallofthe8calvesthatdiedbelongedtothisgroup.Thedurationofdiarrheawasapproximatelythree-eightdays.Inthisdairyfarm,73newborncalveswerederivedfromcowsimportedfromCanada,theothersfromnativecows.Th
