3、bovineembryokidney,andtestedforhemagglutinafion(HA)witherythrocytesofavarietyofspeciesat4°C,roomtemperatureand37°C.HAwasobservedatalltemperatureswithchicken,mouse,rat,andhamste~erythrocytesbutnotwitherythrocytesofhuman(O),cattle,horses,~heep,guineapigs,geese,duck~,pigeonsandl
4、-day-oldchicks.Chickensshoweda~individualvariationinagglutinabilityoftheirerythrocytes,requiringselectionofbirdstoobtainerythrocytesforHA.HAreactionwasinhibitedbyspecificantiserum.SomefactorsinvolvedinHAandHAinhibition(HI)wereinvestigatedandstandardHAandHItestswereworkedout.C
5、alfdiarrheacoronavirushasbeenrecognizedasoneoftheetiologicagentsofneonatalcalfdiarrhea(:Stairetal.,1972;Mebusetal.,1972,1973aandb;Sharpeeetal.,1976).Recentlytheviruswasreportedtoagglutinateerythro-cytesfromrats,miceandhamsters(Sharpeeel;al.,1976).Independentlywealsoobservedth
6、atthevinlsagglutinatedmouse,rat,hamsterandchickenerythrocytes.Thispaperdescribesourobservationsofhemagglutination(HA)withthevirusandHA-inhibitionbyspecificantiserum.Calfdiarrheacoronaviruspassagedinbovineembryokidneycellcultures(Mebusetal.,1973a)ws~suppliedbyDrC.A.Mebus,Unive
