3、C.At37°Ctheagglutinationwasrapidlyreversed.TheoptimalpHforHAandforRDEactivitiesusingmouseredcellswereshowntobe6.5and7.3respectively.Hemagglutina-tionby])VIMwasnotinhibitedbypretreatmentofRBCswithVibriocholeraefiltrateorbypretreatmentwithInfluenza-Ane
4、uraminidase.Therefore,theDVIMreceptorsonRBCsdifferfromthereceptorsofInfluenza-A,andtheRDEactivityofDVIMactsspecificallyonthisreceptor.Inaddition,ananalysisoftheDVIMpolypeptidesshowedthatthevirionscontainfivemajor,VP1(M.W.139,000),VP2(68,000),VP3(53,0
5、00),VP4(38,000),VP5(22,000)andtwominor,VPla(110,000),VPlb(100,000)poly-peptides.VP1andVP1bweredigestedbybromelain,suggestingthattheyconstitutethesurfaceglycoproteins.IntroductionCoronaviridaeareafamilyoflipid-containingRNAviruseswhichexhibitauniquemo
6、rphology.Thevirionshavewidely-spacedsurfaceprojectionswhichformaradiating"corona"aroundtheparticlesasshownbyelectronmicroscopy(18,26).Thediarrheavirusofinfantmice(DVIM),anewly-isolatedmouseentericcoronavirus,isantigenicallyrelatedtoothercoronaviruses
7、bycomplementfixationassaybutclearlydistinguishablebyneutralizationassay(21).Theexistenceofareceptordestroyingenzyme(RDE)-likeactivityhasnotbeenreportedforanyofthecoronaviruses.WereporthereaRDEactivityassociatedwithDVIMvirionswhichdiffersfromthatofort
