2、lllal)rThestructuralpolypeptidesofthenmrinecoronavirus])VIM(diarrhoeavirusofinfantmice)havebeenanalysedincomparisonwithotherstrainsMHV-2,MHV-3,MHV-4(JHM)andMHV-SbySDS-PAGE.Inthepresenceof2-mereaptoethanol,threemajorglyeopolypeptides,gp180,gp69,gp25(asagroupofsimilarspecies

3、)andonemajornon-glycosylatedpolypeptidep58weredetected.Thegp69isaDVIMspecificglyeopolypeptide,inwhichtheglycosidicmoietiesarelinkedtothecorepolypeptidethroughN-glycosidicbonds,andhencemaybecorrelatedwiththeshortprojectionsoftheviralenvelope.Ful'thergpl40,whichappearsinthea

4、bsenceofreducingagents,isapparentlyadimerofgp69heldtogetherbydisulfidelinkages.Thegp25family,ontheotherhand,consistsoffourpolypeptides,twoofwhichaxenotmetabolicallyinhibitedbytunicamyeinsuggestingthattheyareO-linkedglycopolypeptides.DVIMseemstobeserologicallycloselyrelated

5、totheMHV-SstrainasshownbyneutrMization.IntroductionCoronavirusesareagroupofenvelopedviruseswhichcontainlargesingle-strandedRNAgenomesofmessengerpolarity(t2,14,17,22).However,themurinecoronavirusescanbedistinguishedfromtheothercoronavirusesbythepresenceofO-linkedoligosaccha

6、rides(4,9)OurpreviousstudiesonthemorphologyandsomeofthebiologicalactivitiesofthemurineeoronavirusstrainDVIM(diarrhoeavirusofinfantmice)(18,19)haverevealedthepresenceofcharacteristicshortprojectionslocatedonthebaseof'club-shapedeoronaradiation'oftheDVIMvirion.Wewere246K.SUG
