3、spostinfection,followedbyrapidreleaseofthevirusintotheculturefluids.Virus-inducedsyncytiainBALB/c-3T3cellculturescausedhem-adsorptionat4°Candviralantigenswereshowntobelocatedinthecytoplasmofthesyncy~iabyimmunofluorescenttechniques.Byscanningelectron-micro-scopy,buddi
4、ngvirus-likeparticlesweredetectedonthesurfaceofvirus-inducedsyncytia.Morphologicallytheviruswasshowntobeenvelopedandapproximately100nmindiameter.Twotypesofprojectionsweredemonstrated,onetypeofprojectionwasclub-shaped,20nminlengthandtheothertypewassmall,granular,5nmin
5、length.Thelattertypeofprojectionmightbethebasalpartoftheclub-shapedtypeandrelatedtothehemagglutinatingactivity.IntroductionAmongthecoronaviruses,therearestrainsthatcauseintestinalinfectionsleadingtoenteritisanddiarrheainswine(11,25),calves(4,19,23),rodents(21)andposs
6、iblyman(9).Recently,anewviralagent(DVIM)wasisolatedfromaninfantmousewithdiarrhea,bytheutilizationofculturedcells.Ithasalsobeenshownbycomplementfixationteststhatthisnewisolateisantigenicallyrelatedtoknowncoronaviruses,avianinfectiousbronchitisvirus(IBV)andmousehepatit
