2、0)SUMMARYCoronavirusJHMcontainssixmajorproteins,oneofwhich,the60000rnol.wt.nucleocapsidproteinpp60,isphosphorylated.InJHM-infectedcellsip60K,theintracellularprecursortopp60isalsophosphorylated.AssociatedwithpurifiedJHMvirionsisaproteinkinasewhichwillphosphorylatepp60andavarietyofe
3、xogenoussubstratesinvitro.Theenzymehasthecharacteristicsofacyclicnucleotide-independentproteinkinase.Boththeinvivoreactionandtheenzymeactivityinvitrotransferredthey-phosphateofATPtoserineresiduesonthenucleocapsidprotein.INTRODUCTIONThecoronavirusesareassociatedwithavarietyofdiseas
4、esincludingrespiratoryandentericdisordersinhumans,bronchitisinbirds,transmissiblegastroenteritisandencephalitisinpigsanddemyelinatingencephalitisandhepatitisinrodents(McIntosh,1974;Tyrrelletal.,1978;Robb&Bond,1980).Inparticular,coronavirusJHMinducesavarietyofcentralnervoussystemdi
5、sordersinmiceandratsandcanbeusedasamodelforvirus-induceddemyelination(Nagashimaetal.,1978,1979).JHMvirionsarepleomorphicandbearcharacteristicclub-shapedprojections,Thevirionsmaturebybuddingfrominternalcellularmembranesandnotfromtheplasmamembrane(Mclntosh,1974).ThegenomeofJHMVisano
6、n-segmentedsingle-strandedinfectiousRNAoftool.wt.5.4x106,andvirionRNAispolyadenylated(Lai&Stohlman,1978;Wegeetal.,1978).Thevirioncontainssixmajorproteins,fourofwhichareglycoproteins(Wegeetal.,1979;Siddelletal.,1980).Proteinkinasesareassociatedwithavarietyofanimalviruses,bothenvelo
