3、NTRODUCTIONStandardizationisamechanismtoensurethequalityproducts.Foodstandardssettherequirementsforproductstoensurethattheyaresafeandfitforconsumption,thusprovidingprotectionofthehealthofconsumers.Inthecommercialarea,standardscanbeusedasthebasisforcommerciala

4、greements.Standardsenablefairpracticesintheexchangeofgoods,thuseliminatingbarrierstotrade.Internationalstandardsarenecessaryandareameanstofacilitatetrade.Countryshouldbefullyconsciousofthesignificanceoffoodstandardsforconsumers’health,aswellasfortradeandwerea

5、lizethenecessityofinternationalfoodstandardsoftheJointFAO/WHOFoodStandardsProgrammeforprotectionofthehealthofconsumersandforensuringfairpracticesinthefoodtrade.ThefollowingGuidelinesarereferenceexamplesforestablishingnewCodexContactPointsandNationalCodexCommi
