6、ingfor23.2%oftotalrurallabourandnearly10%oftheon5monthsoffieldworkcarriedoutinBeijingfromNovembertotalpopulationofChina(NationalBureauofStatisticsofChina,2004toApril2005.Myaiminundertakingthisfieldworkwasto2004).Mostofthesemigrantscame,andstillcome,frompoorruraldi
7、scoverwhateducationalopportunitieswereavailabletotheareasininteriorprovincesandthewestofChina,movingtowardschildrenofruralmigrantlabourersinthecapitalandtoinvestigatetheeasternandcoastalregions,whereeconomicdevelopmentissomeofthecausesofthissituation.Ialsoaimedt
