2、nain1998and1999.Duringmyfieldresearch,IfoundseverallocationsimpressedmeforChristianitywasprosperoustherewhilesometraditionalChinesefolkreligionsweredecliningatthesametime.Withgreatenthusiasm,IdidsomeelementaryfieldworkinZhangdianTownofShanxiProvincetoinitiallyexploreth
3、eseideas.Prof.YiyuanLi,afamousanthropologistofTaiwan,saidinhisarticle“Burgeoningreligionsandtraditionalrituals——ananthropologicalsurvey”(PublishedinTheFrontLineofThought,Volume3of1997.Kunming,P.R.China)thatalongwiththeindustrializationandurbanizationinTaiwan,traditiona
4、lChinesediffusedreligioncontinuestoflourishwhilethewesterninstitutionalreligionsbegantodecline.Butit’sprobablynotthetruthinMainlandChina.Anyhow,thedataIgotinZhangdianTownofShanxiProvincewon’tconfirmtothisassertion.Inordertomakeclearwhathadactuallyhappenedtoreligion,esp
5、eciallytoruralreligionalongwithurbanizationandindustrialization,I’minspiredtodothiscasestudytomakesomekindofverification.Thusthepurposeofthisprojectistoengagetheimpactofruralurbanizationonthetransformationofruralreligionbasedonspecificdescriptionoftheurbanizationsituat
6、ionandthelocalreligioustransformationofthetargetcommunity.So,inthisproject,Iwillattempttofindouthowtheeconomicstructure,populationstructure,lifestyle,socialinteraction,massmediaandthevalueconceptofthetargetcommunityhavebeenaffectedbyruralurbanization,andthusitsimpacton
7、localreligion.Then,Iwillanalyzetherelationshipbetweenruralurbanizationandthetransformationofruralreligion,thedialoguebetweentraditionalChinesediffusedreligionandwesterninstitutionalreligionsalongwiththeprocessofruralurbanization,andtopredictthefateofChineseruralreligio
