2、dform19August2004;accepted28August2004AbstractAffectivesemanticprimingwasexaminedinnormalcontrolsandpatientswithschizophreniausingalexicaldecisiontaskwithfouraffectivecategoriesofrelatedwordpairs:neutral,happy,fearfulandsad.Resultsdemonstratedastrikingan

3、dreliableeffectofaffectivecategoryuponsemanticpriming.Neutralandhappyprimetargetsyieldedsignificantsemanticpriming.Fearfulandsadpairsshowednoormodestsemanticprimingfacilitation.Schizophreniapatientsdidnotdifferfromnormalcontrolsontheirprimingscorestoanyo

4、fthefouraffectivecategories.Theseresultssupportthenotionthattheassociativemechanismsthatbindnegativevalencewordsaredistinctinnature;theyalsoclarifythatpatientswithschizophreniadonotshowincreasedsensitivitytoaffect,andmorespecificallynegativeaffectivecont
