3、ersionoftherelativevaluesobtainedintermsofsizeandfluorescenceapplyingFCMtoquantitativeestimatesofcellsize,pigmentconcentration,genomesizeetc.,isaddressed.TheintroductionofDNA-cell-cycleanalysismadeeasilyassessablebyflowcytometryhasbeenofgreatimportance,allowinginsitumeasurementofspeciesspeci
4、ficgrowthrates.Keyquestionsinecologysuchasfactorsdeterminingthewaxandwaneofphytoplanktonbloomcannowbebetteransweredintermsofspeciesspecificgrowthandmortality.Finally,flowcytometryprovidesdetailedinformationofthephysiologicalstatusoftheindividualalgalcells.Newstainingmethodsenableustodistingu
