3、gprocessofthehistory,theculturalforeignnesshascomeintobeingbyreasonofthedifferencesofregions,nations,history,culturesandwaysofthought,whichmakesthewholeprocessoftranslationsaturatedwithparadoxesandresultsinthiskindofphenomenonof“culturalshock”.Forexample,toChinese,龙issomethingsacredandhasbe
4、enreferredtoastheancestoroftheChinesenation―thatiswhytheChinesecallthemselvesdescendantsofthedragon(龙的传人)andChinesefeudalemperorswereoftenreferredtoaswearingimperialrobe(龙袍),livinginpalacesdecoratedwiththedragon.Thedragonking(龙王)isapowerfulgodinChineselegendarywhichrulestheseasandotherwater
5、bodiesandisinchargeofraining.ManyChinesewouldlongtheirsonstosucceedinlife(望子成龙),butitsliteraltranslation“toexpectone’ssontobecomeadragon”wouldsoundridiculoustotheEnglishspeakingpeople,becauseintheirmindthedragonissomeevilmonsterwhichcanspitfireandsometimespossessesthreetonineheads.Therearev
6、eryfewEnglishidiomswiththeword“dragon”except“blinddragon”and“fightlikeadragon[3].”Theverydistinctiveconnotationof龙inChineseandthedragoninEnglishistheveryconflictbetweenthesourcelanguageculture(thelocalcultureofthetranslators)andthetargetlanguageculture(thecultureofthetargetreaders);onaccoun
7、tofthis,therearetwowaysofthetranslationof“亚洲四小龙”,thatis,“FourAsianDragons”and“FourAsianTigers”.Thepreviousone,tothewesternpeopleistheforeignization,whilethelattermaybechosenbysomeofthetranslators,whicheffacesthelocalcolorofthesourcetextcultureandprobably
