2、ruary20,furtherdowntoabout100inmid-march,andnowremainsinthedoubledigitsandsometimesevensingledigits.AccordingtotheWorldHealthOrganization(WHO),asat28June2020,theaccumulatednumberofconfirmedCOVID-19casesinChinawas85,190.SincetheoutbreakofthepandemicinlateJanuary,theChineseg
3、overnmentimmediatelyadoptedstringentresponsemeasures,includingfactoryshutdowns,suspensionofschools,closureofshoppingmallsandshops,corporatetelecommuting,andcompulsorywearingofmasksinallpublicplaces.ThesemeasureseffectivelycontrolledthespreadofCOVID-19inChina,butalsocauseds
4、eriousharmtotheeconomyandenterprises.Theimpactonenterprisesincludes:1)storesweretemporarilyclosed,soindustriesthatreliedonofflinechannels(includingapparel,food&beverageandretail)losttheirmainsourceofincome,butfixedcostssuchasrentandstaffsalariesstillneededtobepaid;2)cashfl
5、owpressureonenterprisesincreasedsharply,andsomesmallenterprisessuffereddifficultiesincapitalturnoverandevenwentbankrupt;3)duringthemostseriousperiodofthepandemic,nationallogisticssystemswereparalyzed,resultingobstructionofonlineshoppingchannels;and4)manyhouseholdslostsourc
6、esofincomeresultinginseverelyreducedconsumptioncapacity.Butthegoodnewsisthattheextremestagnationoftheeconomylastedonlyaboutamonth,thankstothepropermeasurestakenbytheChinesegovernment.FromMarchonwards,provinceslessaffectedbythepandemicbegantoreducingregulationslowlyandgradu
7、ally,andmoreandmoreprovincessubsequentlyfollowed;theeconomycontinuedtograduallyrecover.Inaddition,theChinesegovernmentprovidedaseriesofsubsidiesandloanpoliciestohelpenterprisestideoverthedifficulties.Sofar,China'sdomesticeconomicoperationhasbasicallyreturnedtonormal.Althou
