5、uslontechnique.ThecompetenceofneonatalpigstoproduceVNantibodywithincreasedIgGlevelswasdemonstrated.Thehigherantibodyresponseseeninneonatalpigs,whencomparedtoseraofyoungadultplgs,maybeattributedtotheincreasedreplicationofTGEVintheintestinaltractsofneonatalpigs
6、ortothelackofotherimmunogensthatmayinterfereorcompetewiththeproductionofspecificantibody.INTRODUCTIONInapreviousstudy(Stoneetal.,1977),weobservedthattransmissiblegastroenterltlsvirus(TGEV)neutralizationserumtltersofneonatalpigsthatsurvivedtheviralinfectiongre
7、atlyexceededthoseofadultsgivenacomparableoraldoseofvirus.Thereissomeconflictastotheimmunologicalcompetenceofpigsatbirth(Bourneetal.,1974;Kimetal.,1967;Sterzletal.,1965).Itisgenerallyaccepted:(a)thatmaternalantibodiesarenottransferredacrosstheplacentainswine,(
