4、hristiansandgainafootholdinchina.Hearrayedstrikingclock,tripleprism,armillarysphere(自鸣钟、三棱镜、浑天仪)andhungthemapoftheworldinhisabodetoattractvisitors.TheworldmapshatteredtheChinese’sdie-hardbeliefthatChinawasthecenterofthewholeworld.Lateron,XueGuangqi(徐光启)wrote《山海舆地图经解》，interpretingthemapinChinesel
5、anguage,whichbecamethefirstbookondisseminatingwesternscientificknowledge.OnSeptember22,1596MatteoRiccisuccessfullyforecastedasolareclipse(日食）inChina,andquicklybecamewell-known.MatteoRicci,workingtogetherwithXuGuangqi,translatedthefirstsixvolumesofEuclid’sElements（欧几里得《几何原本》前六卷）in1607.Hewasalsoth
6、efirsttotranslatesomeoftheFourBooksintoLatin,beingthefirsttointroduceChineseclassicsintothewesternworld.&&ThecomingofMatteoRiccikindledtheenthusiasmofChinesescholarstolearnwesternknowledge.AndfromthenonChinesescholarsbecameopen-mindedanddevelopedaninterestinlearningfromthewesterncountries,whicha
