2、stified,theywouldbefatalforConcep-tualMetaphorTheory,becausecircularityisoneofthemostseriousobjec-tionsthatcanberaisedagainstascientificapproach.Accordingly,thepaperaddressesthefollowingproblems:(1)ArethechargesclaimingthatLako¤andJohnson’sConceptualMeta
3、phorTheoryiscircularadequate?(2)Inwhatkindofmetatheoreticalframeworkcanitbedecidedwhetheragivenargumentationiscircular?(3)IsLako¤andJohnson’sConceptualMeta-phorTheorybuiltoncircularargumentation?Thepaperanswersthesequestionsasfollows:(1)Thechargesmenti
4、onedarenotadequatebecausetheyarebasedondefectivenotionsofcircularity.(2)Anapproachtoplau-sibleargumentationisproposed.Itincludesanovelaccountoffallacies,whichfacilitatesamoreadequatedefinitionofcircularitythanthosewhichthechargesuse.(3)Thisnovelaccounty
