5、horistypicallyviewedascharacteristicoflanguagealone,amatterofwords…”(G.Lakoff,andM.Johnson,MetaphorsWeLiveBy).Itcanexpressone’sideamoreeffectivelyandvividlyasadevice.Conventionalmetaphorsarepervasiveineverydaylanguageandwearealwaysusingthemwithoutknowingthem.Metaphor
6、hasbeenextendedtoalargerscopeagainandagain,especiallyintherecent20ormoreyears.Fromthetheoryofcognitivescience,wecanknowthat“Theessenceofmetaphorisunderstandingandexperiencingonekindofthingintermsofanother”.(Lakoff,G.andJohnson,M.,MetaphorsWeLiveBy)Definedinthisway,me
7、taphorisacomplexphenomenonoflanguageandthinking.Thatistosay,linguisticmetaphorandconceptualmetaphorarecloselyconnectedtoeachother,andtheformeristheinstantiationofthelatter,whereasthelatterissuper-ordinatecategory.AsTheOxfordEnglishDictionarydefines,metaphoris“thefigu
