3、tadecanolcovalentlyboundtothenanotubesurface,havebeensynthesizedbybrominationofthecarbonnanotubesfollowedbynucleophilicsubstitutionusingoctadecanolandsodiumhydride.Scanningelectronmicroscopyandtransmissionelectronmicroscopyimagesshowthatthemorphologiesofthenanotubesarelargelyintac

4、tafterfunctionalization.Thebrominatedcarbonnanotubesandoctadecanolmodifiedcarbonnanotubeswerecharacterizedusingenergy-dispersiveX-rayspectroscopy,RamanspectroscopyandFouriertransforminfraredspectroscopy.Themechanismofnucleophilicsubstitutionwasdiscussed,anditisbelievedthatthereact

6、thanthatofplanarwalls.Toelimin-[1]in1991.However,ifCNTsweretoachievetheirfullatesuchalimitation,itisnecessarytofunctionalize[2~5][10][11]potential,chemicalmodificationisoftennecessary.nanotubesidewallsdirectly.Chenetal.reportedEspeciallyifitwaspossibletochemicallymodifythethatCNTs
