3、kindsofmetallicelements.WepredicttheoreticallythatadsorptionofnonmetallicB,C,F,Si,P,S,Cl,Br,OH,andIandmetallicSr,La,Mg,Na,K,Y,Ca,andBacanstabilizetheceria{100}planesthroughloweringtheirsurfaceenergies.Experimentally,wepurposelyselectKOHasamineralizingagentbytakingi
4、ntoaccountthecalculatedsurfaceenergiesandthefactorsinhydrothermalsynthesis,anddemonstrateasuccessfulproductionofcube-shapedcerianano-particlesofhighpurityviacarefullyoptimizingthesynthesisparameters.Furthercomprehensivetransmissionelectronmicroscopystudyidentifiesal
5、ltheexposureplanesofthecube-shapedceriananoparticlesastheuniform{100}crystalplanes.Asaresultofthisuniquemorphology,thenanoparticlesarefoundtoshowmarkedlyenhancedUV-absorptioncapabilityascomparedtoeitheroctahedron-shapedceriananoparticlesorbulkceria.1.INTRODUCTIONan
6、dnanosphereshavebeensuccessfullysynthesizedviaa9−19varietyofmethods.Amongthem,thehydrothermalCeria(CeO2)nanomaterialsfindextensiveapplications,synthesisapproachhasattractedwidespreadattentionbecauserangingfrommicrocircuitpolishingandairpurificationtomanyofitsownmerit
