2、ongtranslatorswithdifferentlevelsoftranslationcompetence.ThedataareextractedfromaChineseintoEnglishtranslationcorpus,whichconsistsof315translationpassagesproducedby105translators.Thefeaturesanddevicesidentifiedintheliteraturereviewarefirstsubjectedtoaone-wayANOVAan
3、dthenadiscriminantanalysistoyieldthosefeaturesanddevicesstatisticallysalientenoughtodifferentiatetranslationcompetencelevels.TheresultsofthisstudyprovideinsightintoL2translationcompetenceandsuggestanewap-proachtoassessingsuchcompetence.Keywords.ChineseintoEnglishtr

6、man2000,Kramsch1997,Lonsdale2001,Snell-Hornby2000,Wid-dowson1994,Zaid1999).Thefocusofthisarticleisontheassessmentoftranslationcompetence,wherethetargetlanguageisasecondlanguageofthetranslator.ThecaseofChinesetoEnglishtranslationisspecificallyinvestigated.11Intheint
