4、sforfutureexplorationintoprinciplesgoverningEnglish／ChineseuseintheThethesisaimedatdescribingteachers’practiceinChineseuse,andteachers’mothertongueusecontexts．SevenintensivereadingteachersinBaodingCollegewereinvestigatedbymeansofclassroomrecordings，questionnairesandinterviews．In

5、ordertohaveanoverallviewoftheteachers’useofmothertongueindifferentcontexts，eachteacherwasrecordedtwice．Thefirstrecordinglasted90minutesanditWasaboutnewwordsinstruction,backgroundinformationintroduction，andtextappreciation；thesecondrecordinglasted30minutesanditwasaboutexercisesco

6、rrection．AfterthataLlltheclassroomrecordingsweretranscribedverbatimtoexaminetheexistenceofteachers’code-switching，calculatetheamountandfrequencyoftheChinesecode，andanalyzethefunctionsoftheChinesecodeintheprocessofalternation．Levine’S(2003)questionnaireWasadaptedforallthesubjectt
