2、yandpoeticallyandofEuropepolitically..Thepoemcontainsfivestanzasoffourteenlineseach—fourthree-linestanzasandatwo-linecouplet,allmeterediniambicpentameter.Thethree-linerhymeschemeineachpartisknownasterzarima,employedbyDanteinhisDivineComedy.Inthisformat,line2of
3、onetercetrhymeswithlines1and3ofthenexttercet,noticingthatdead(secondline,firsttercet)rhymeswithredandbed(firstandthirdlines,secondtercet).Thefinalcoupletrhymeswiththemiddlelineofthelastthree-linestanza.Andthuseachofthefivepartsfollowsthisscheme:ababcbcdcdedee.
4、Thislinkedchaingivesafeelingofonwardmotion;theversehasabreathlessqualitywhichisinkeepingwiththeonwardmotionasthewindmovesforward.Itcanbedividedintotwoparts:thefirstthreestanzasandthelasttwostanzas.Thethreestanzasscribethewind'sforcefulanddynamiceffectsuponthee
5、arth,theair,andtheoceanas”destroyerandpreserver”.Itwilldestroytheoldworldandheraldinanewone.WhilethelasttwoshowthatShelleyspeaksdirectlytothewind,askingforitspowertolifthimlikealeaf,acloudorawaveandtomakehimitscompanioninitswanderings,reinvigoratinghimandhispo
6、etry.Inthefirststanza,thewitheredleavesandthewestwindarethemainimages.Itbeginswiththealliteration‘WildWestWind’,makingthewindsound“invigorating”andliving.In“ThoubreathofAutumn’sbeing”autumnispersonified,andthewestwindiscomparedtotheairbreathedoutofautumn,alivi
