2、yofJia,anddisplaysmanycharacteristicsofChinesefeudalculture,includingclothing,food,architecture,socialsystem,conventions,philosophy,educationandart,etc.Thenovelinvolvesovertwohundredbeautifulandwell-designedtraditionalverseswhichnotonlyconstituteaninseparablepartofthewholework,butalsoreflecttraditio
3、nalChineseculture.Uptillnow,HLMhasbeentranslatedintooveradozenforeignlanguagesincluding9Englishversions,amongwhichYangXianyi&GladysYang’sADreamofRedMansionsandDavidHawkes&JohnMinford’sTheStoryoftheStonearecompleteversionsandthetwomostoutstandingones.Comparedwithstudiesonthetranslationofthenarrationi
4、nthisnovelandtheculturalinformationinvariousaspectsindailylife,studiesonthetranslationofitspoetryaretobefurtherdeepened.Inthisthesis,theauthorwouldviewtheEnglishtranslationofthepoetryinthisnovelfromthereproductionofthewriter’sintentionsandtheconveyanceof“ThreeBeauties”.Bystudyingthetranslationofthes
5、epoems,wemayseethenecessityandpossibilityofthetranslationofthepoetryinthisnovel.Theprincipleofthe“ThreeBeauties”whichisaguidetothetranslationandcriticismofpoetryrefersto“beautyinsense,beautyinsoundandbeautyinform”.IthasbeenputforwardagainbyProfessorXuYuanchongbasedonhispredecessors’researchandhisown
6、practice.Itmeansthatthetranslatorofpoetryshouldendeavortomakehis/herversionfaithfultotheoriginal.Buthe/sheshouldnotstopjusthere:fromthispointthetranslatormustcontinuehis/herefforttobringouttheoriginalbeautiesinsense,insoundandinform,thatis,totransferrhymedversesintorhymedones.Inthisthesis,theanalysi
