2、icialtolanguageteachingintwoaspects:Firstly,appliedlinguisticsextendstheoreticallinguisticsinthedirectionoflanguagelearningandteaching,sothattheteacherisenabledtomakebetterdecisionsonthegoalandcontentoftheteaching.Secondly,appliedlinguisticsstatestheinsightsandimplicationsthatlinguistic
3、theorieshaveonthelanguageteachingmethodology.Oncethegoalandcontentoftheteachingaresettled,theteacherhastoconsiderquestionsofhowtoteach.2.LinguisticsandlanguagelearningManylanguagelearningtheoriesareproposedbasedoncertainlinguistictheories.Infact,knowledgeinlinguisticsliesattherootofunde
4、rstandingwhatlanguagelearnerscanlearn,howtheyactuallylearnandwhattheylearnultimately.AsEllis(1994)pointsout,“whereasmuchoftheearlier[secondlanguageacquisition]workfocusedonthelinguisticand,inparticular,thegrammatical-propertiesoflearnerlanguageandwaspsycholinguisticinorientation,laterwo
