1、APerspectiveofcultureintotheTranslationofChineseandEnglishIdioms1.1Thedefinitionofidiom:anidiomisanelementofalanguagethatpossessesauniquewayofexpressionbasedonitstime-honoreduse.(LiFuning,1979:4)Inotherwords,anidiomisafixedgroupofwordsorasingleword,orevenasentence,withaspecialmea

2、ningthatcannotbeguessedfromitsstructure.Thatistosay,themeaningofanidiommustbeleantasawhole.Asimpledefinitionoftheidiomwouldbetheuseofcommonwordsinaspecialsense.“Tospillthebeans”,forinstance,isnotatallconnectedwithbeans;itmeans“totellsomethingthatissecret”.InEnglishIdiomsandHowtoU
