4、containingthemajorantigenicsitesoftheprotein.ExtractsfrompotatotubersexpressingN-gSwereinoculatedintraperitoneallytomice,andthevaccinatedmicedevelopedserumIgGspecificforTGEV.Furthermore,whenpotatotubersexpressingN-gSwerefeddirectlytomice,theydevelopeds
5、erumantibodiesspecificforgSprotein,demonstratingtheoralimmunogenicityoftheplantderivedspikeproteinfromTGEV.*Transmissiblegastroenteritiscoronavirus(TGEV)isthecausativeagentofacutediarrheaofnewbornpigletsthatprovokeshighratemortalitiesinaffectedfarms.Pr
6、otectiveimmunityagainstthisdiseasehastobedevelopedinpregnantsowsinordertoconferpassiveprotectiontothepigletstroughcolostrumandmilk.NeutralizingantibodiesagainstthevirusaredirectedmainlytoglycoproteinS[12,15],andrelevantepitopesinneutralizationhavebeen
7、mappedintotheN-terminaldomainofthisprotein[8].FourmajorantigenicsiteshavebeendescribedintheglobularpartofglycoproteinS(gS),ofwhichsiteAistheimmunodominant[9–11,21].TheprotectionofsucklingpigletsagainstanentericTGEVinfectionisbasedontheuptakeofspecificl
8、actogenicantibodies,mainlyoftheIgAclass,inthemilk1726N.Gómezetal.ofTGEV-immunemothers[4].Sincetheconceptofvaccineproductionintrans-genicplantswasfirstintroducedbyMasonandco-workersin1992[16],theoralimmunogenicityofseveralantigensderivedfromhuma
