2、diesexaminingthereliabilityandvalidityofthescoresproducedusingthistest,andthefirstevidenceforacorrelationbetweenERAmeasuredbyastandardizedtestandpersonality.UtilizingMatsumotoandEkman’s(1988)JapaneseandCaucasianFacialExpressionsofEmotion(JACFEE)andNe
3、utralFaces(JACNeuF),wecallthismeasuretheJapaneseandCaucasianBriefAffectRecognitionTest(JACBART).TheJACBARTimprovesonpreviousmeasuresofERAby(1)usingexpressionsthathavesubstantialvalidityandreliabilitydataassociatedwiththem,(2)includingposersoftwovisib
4、lydifferentraces(3)balancedacrosssevenuniversalemotions(4)withequaldistributionofposerraceandsexacrossemotions(5)inaformatthateliminatesafterimagesassociatedwithfastexposures.ScoresderivedusingtheJACBARTarereliable,andthreestudiesdemonstratedacorrela
5、tionbetweenERAandthepersonalityconstructsofOpennessandConscientiousness,whileonestudyreportsacorrelationwithExtraversionandNeuroticism.Researchonjudgmentsofemotionfromfacialexpressionshasalongandimportanthistoryinpsychology,andhascontributedgreatlyto
6、theliteratureconcerningtheuniversalityofemotion,andtoknowledgeconcerningdifferencesbetweengender,ethnicity,culture,andpsychiatricstatus.Studiesexaminingtherelationshipbetweenindividualdifferencesinjudgmentsofemotion(hereonreferredtoasEmotionRecogniti
7、onAbility—ERA)andpersonalityalsohaveaconsiderablehistory,butischeckeredwithinconsistentfindings.Ononehand,ERAhasbeencorrelatedwithemotionalexpression(e.g.,Lanzetta&Kleck,1970;Levy,1964;Zuckerman,Hall,DeFrank,&Rosenthal,1976;Zuckerman,Larrance,Hall,De
