2、tyofthescoresproducedusingthistest,andthefirstevidenceforacorrelationbetweenERAmeasuredbyastandardizedtestandpersonality.UtilizingMatsumotoandEkman’s(1988)JapaneseandCaucasianFacialExpressionsofEmotion(JACFEE)andNeutralFaces(JACNeuF),wecallthismeasuretheJapaneseandCaucasianBriefAffectR
3、ecognitionTest(JACBART).TheJACBARTimprovesonpreviousmeasuresofERAby(1)usingexpressionsthathavesubstantialvalidityandreliabilitydataassociatedwiththem,(2)includingposersoftwovisiblydifferentraces(3)balancedacrosssevenuniversalemotions(4)withequaldistributionofposerraceandsexacrossemotio
4、ns(5)inaformatthateliminatesafterimagesassociatedwithfastexposures.ScoresderivedusingtheJACBARTarereliable,andthreestudiesdemonstratedacorrelationbetweenERAandthepersonalityconstructsofOpennessandConscientiousness,whileonestudyreportsacorrelationwithExtraversionandNeuroticism.Researcho
5、njudgmentsofemotionfromfacialexpressionshasalongandimportanthistoryinpsychology,andhascontributedgreatlytotheliteratureconcerningtheuniversalityofemotion,andtoknowledgeconcerningdifferencesbetweengender,ethnicity,culture,andpsychiatricstatus.Studiesexaminingtherelationshipbetweenindivi
6、dualdifferencesinjudgmentsofemotion(hereonreferredtoasEmotionRecognitionAbility—ERA)andpersonalityalsohaveaconsiderablehistory,butischeckeredwithinconsistentfindings.Ononehand,ERAhasbeencorrelatedwithemotionalexpression(e.g.,Lanzetta&Kleck,1970;Levy,1964;Zuckerman,Hall,DeFrank,&Rosenth
