3、lyexaminedwithrespecttoantigenicrelationshipsandpathogenicpotentialindogs.WithmonoclonalantibodiesandhyperimmuneantiseratofelinecoronavirusandCCV,respectively,varyingdegreesofantigenicdiversitieswerefoundamongthestrainsbyneutralizationandimmunofluorescenceassays,butitwasfeltthattheybelongtooneserot
4、ype.Specific-pathogen-freepuppiesexperimentallyinoculatedwithsomeCCVstrainsmanifestedclinicalsymptoms,buttherewasadifferenceintheirvirulence.InordertoelucidatetheprevalenceofCCVinfectionsindogsinJapan,wetestedforneutralizingantibodiestoCCVin467fielddogs,andfoundaprevalenceof44.1%.Moreover,byusingne
5、stedreversetranscriptase—polymerasechainreactiononrectalswabsof100diarrheicdogsrecentlypresentedinveterinaryclinics,evidenceofCCVin16%ofthesespecimenswasfound.TheresultssuggestedthatCCVinfectionismorewidespreadthanexpectedindogs,andthatCCVisasignificantetiologicfactorincaninediarrheaalsoinJapan.—KE
