3、ationwitheitherattenuatedorvirulentbovinecoro-navirus(BCV).Uninfectedcalvesservedascontrols.Todeterminetheintestinalandsystemiccellularimmunestatus,weperformedMHC-restrictedcytotoxiclymphocyte(CTL)assayonmesentericlymphocytes,enumeratedTcellsubsetsinperipheralbloodlymphocytes,andexaminedhist
4、opathologicalalterationsinmesentericlymphnodesandgut-associatedlymphoidtissue.TargetcellsfortheCTLassaywereautologoustesticularcellsandeffectorcellsweremesentericlymphocytesfromcalvesinfectedwithBCV.NoappreciablespecificlysiswasobservedinanygroupofcalvesindicatingtheabsenceofdemonstrableCTLr
5、esponses.TheTc/Tspopulationwasseverelydepressedinthecalfinoculatedwiththevirulentvirusbutnotinthoseinoculatedwitheithertheattenuatedvirusorplacebo.ThemesentericlymphnodesandPeyer'spatchesofcalvesinoculatedwiththevirulentvirusshowedseveredepletionoflymphocytes.Thesecalvesdevelopedintestinalan
