6、hediseasein-cludespseudorabiesvirus(PRV),influenzavirusesandtheporcinerespira-torycoronavirus(PRCV),thelatterbeingfirstdetectedindifferentEuro-peancountriesin1983-1984(Brownetal.,1986;Duretetal.,1988;Pensaertetal.,1986).Serologicalstudieshavedemonstrat
7、edacloserelationshipbe-tweenPRCVandtransmissiblegastroenteritisvirus(TGEV)withthevi-rusesbeingdistinguishedfromeachotheronlybytheuseofmonoclonalan-tibodies(Laudeetal.,1988;Garwesetal.,1988).Recently,Rasschaertetal.(1990)comparedthegenomicorganizationof
8、eachvirusandshowedthatPRCVhadvariousnucleotidedeletionswhencomparedtoTGEV.Nocon-clusioncouldbemadeconcerningthegenomicmodification(s)controllingthephenotypicdifferenceobservedbetweentheviruses,namelytheimpairedmultiplicationofPRCVinthed
