3、phagescouldbeob-tainedfromaninitiallavage,asecondlavageperformedonthesamecat9-11dayslateryieldedsixtimesasmanymacrophagesasthefirstlavage,providingsufficientnumbersofcellsforcharacterizationandinfectIonexperiments.Macrophagesfromthesesubse-quentlavageswerenotmorefun
4、ctionallyactivatedinphagocytosisassaysthantheresidentmacrophagesfromtheInitiallavage,andtheywereequallysusceptibletoinfectionwithfelineInfectiousperitonitisvirus(FIPV).infectedculturesproducedpeaktitersofio#{176}TClDperml,andFIPVantigenwasdetectedInasmallsubset(0
5、.1-1.0%)ofcellsbyIndirectImmunofluorescence.TheFIPV-infectedcellswereidentifledasmacrophagesbytheircharacteristicmorphologyandabilitytophagocytizerhodamine-labeledlatexbeads.Thesuccessfulisolationoflargenumbersofunactivatedfelinemacrophageswillpermitinvitrostudiesof
