3、therintranasally(IN)ororally(0)withbovinecoronavirusor0plusIN(O/IN)or0withbovinerotavirus.Sheddingofvirusinnasalorfecalsamples,andvirus-infectednasalepithelialcellsweredetectedusingimmunofluorescentstaining(IF),ELISAorimmuneelectronmicroscopy(IEM).Isotype-specificantibodytitersinsera,nasalandfeca
4、lsamplesweredeterminedbyELISA.Calvesinoculatedwithcoronavirusshedvirusinfecesandviruswasdetectedinnasalepithelialcells.NasalsheddingpersistedlongerinIN-inoculatedcalvesthaninO-inoculatedcalvesandlongerthanfecalsheddinginbothINandO-inoculatedcalves.Diarrheaoccurredinallcalves,buttherewerenosignsof
5、respiratorydisease.Calvesinoculatedwithrotavirushadsimilarpatternsofdiarrheaandfecalshedding,butgenerallyofshorterdurationthanincoronavirus-inoculatedcalves.Nonasalsheddingofrotaviruswasdetected.PeakIgManttbodyresponess,inmostcalves,weredetectedinfecalandnasalspecimentsat7-10dayspost-exposure(DPE
6、),preceedingpeakIgAresponseswhichoccurredat10-14DPE.Thenasalantibodyresponsesoccurredinallvirus-inoculatedcalvesevenintheabsenceofnasalsheddingofvirusinrotavirus-inoculatedcalves.CalvesinoculatedwithcoronavirushadhighertitersofIgMandIgAantibodiesinfecalandnasalsamplesthanrotavirus-inoculatedcalve
7、s.Inmostinoculatedcalves,maximaltitersofIgMorIgAantibodiescorrelatedwiththecessationoffecalornasalvirusshedding.AsimilarsequenceofappearanceofIgMandIgAantibodiesoccurredinserum,butIgAantibodiespersistedforashorterperio
