3、edchickenredcellsandweresensitivetosodiumdesoxycholate.MultiplicationwithCPEwasdemonstratedinBHK21/c13andBSCdcells,andwithoutCPEinVeroandGMKcellcultures.Themousepatho-genicitywasrelative]ylow.Ingelprecipitationthreetofivespecificlineswereseen.Precipitatingantibodiesha

4、vebeenfoundinseabirdspeciescommonlyin-festedbyI.uriae.TheecologicalcircumstancesoftheisolatesindicateanearlierunrecognizedarboviruscirculatingbetweenseabirdsandI.uriae.Thiscorona-likevirushasbeententativelytermedRundevirus.ImroduetionIn1973investigationswereundertaken

5、toevaluatetheextent,distributionandecologicalcircumstancesofarboviruslociinNorway.Untilthen.,noarbo-virusisolateshadbeenreportedfromthiscountry,althoughecologicalandcli-nicaI/epidemiologicalconsiderations(3,24,26)andalimitedserologicalsurveyonbovinesera(28)indicatedth

6、eexistenceofCentral-Europeantick-borneencephalitisvirusfool.Theearlyphaseoftheprojectconcernsthestudyoftheimportanceofticksasvectors;later,mosquito-borneagentswillbeinvestigated.InNorwayfiveIxodesspeciesareabundant:_[.ricinus(23),I.tria.nguticeps(24),I.hexagonus(17),I
