3、evenue,profitsandpricesdroppedSomeeconomiesstartedtorecoverbythemid-1930s.However,inmanycountriesthenegativeeffectsoftheGreatDepressionlasteduntilthestartofWorldWarII.EconomichistoriansusuallyattributethestartoftheGreatDepressiontothesuddendevastatingcollapseofUSst
4、ockmarketpricesonOctober29,1929,knownasBlackTuesday.However,somedisputethisconclusion,andseethestockcrashasasymptom,ratherthanacauseoftheGreatDepression.CausesoftheGreatDepressionThereweremultiplecausesforthefirstdownturnin1929.Theseincludethestructuralweaknessesan
5、dspecificeventsthatturneditintoamajordepressionandthemannerinwhichthedownturnspreadfromcountrytocountry.Currenttheoriesmaybebroadlyclassifiedintotwomainpointsofviewandseveralheterodoxpointsofview.First,therearedemand-driventheories.Theconsensusviewpointisthattherew
