3、rVersions,thenworkedasExecutiveSecretaryforTranslationsuntilhisretirement.NidawasinstrumentalinengineeringthejointeffortbetweentheVaticanandtheUnitedBibleSocieties(UBS)toproducecross-denominationalBiblesintranslationsacrosstheglobe.Thisworkbeganin1968andwascarriedoni

4、naccordancewithNida'stranslationprincipleofFunctionalEquivalence.EugeneA.Nidaisoneofthemostdistinguishedtranslationtheoristsinthewest.Hehasachievedgreatsuccessinthisfield.Histranslationtheorieshasahugeinfluenceonthetranslationstudiesnotonlyinwesterncountries,butalsoi

5、neasterncountries,especiallyinChina.NidahasbeentoChinaformanytimes.HistheoriesinfluencedmanyscholarsinChina.ForinstanceFuLei.Nidaisgenerallyrecognizedasthemostinfluentialoneamongallthetranslationtheorists.2.IntroductionofEugeneA.Nida’sTranslationTheories(1).TheNature

7、oldfocusandnewfocus.Theolderfocusintranslatingwastheformofthemessage,andtranslatorstookparticulardelightinbeingabletoreproducestylisticspecialties.Thenewfocus,however,hasshiftedfromtheformofthemessagetotheresponseofthereceptor.Therefore,whatonemustdetermineistherespo
