3、edtogetherunderthesameenviron-mentalconditionsandselectedforsrowthratefrom1961to1979.Growthtraitsstudiedwerebirthweight,preweaningandpostweaninggains.Recordsof2077calvesof70HEand100SYpaternalhalf-sibfamilieswereusedforanalysis.Exceptforbirthweight,phenotypicvarian

4、cesofgrowthtraitsweresimilarforthesynthetic(SY)andpurebred(HE)populations,butgeneticvarianceswerelargerinSYthaninHEforallgrowthtraitsexceptpostweaninggaininmales.Thecoefficientsofvariationwerecomparableforallthetraitsstudiedinthetwopopulations,indicatingthatphenot
