4、tiontestedbulls.Can.J.Anim.Sci.80:435–441.Therecordsof282youngbeefbullsfromeightbreedstestedfromNovember1981toApril1987attheEllerslieBullTestStation,Alberta,Canada,wereusedtostudythevariationinfeedefficiencyamongyoungperformance-testedbulls.Considerablevariationexistedamongtheanimalsinbothresidualme

5、tabolizableenergyconsumptionandresidualdrymatterconsumption.Theheritabilityestimatesforresidualmetabolizableenergyconsumptionandresidualdrymatterconsumptionwere0.33and0.29,respectively.Inaddition,residualmetabolizableenergyconsumptionandresidualdrymatterconsumptionweremoderatelycorrelated(r=0.43)wit

6、hcon-ventionalfeed-to-gainratio,indicatingthatconventionalfeed-to-gainratioonlyaccountedfor18%ofthevariationinresidualmetabolizableenergyconsumptionorresidualdrymatterconsumption.Itwas,therefore,worthwhiletouseresidualmetabolizableenergyconsumptionorresidualdrymatterconsumptionasseparatemeasuresoffe
