3、lureandstroke,andthereforebeconsideredaburdenonhealthserviceutilization.TheobjectiveofthisstudywastoinvestigatetheburdenandtrendofhypertensioninalargeCanadianpopulationfrom1996to2003.1Approach(84Words)StudypopulationincludedCalgaryHealthRegionresidents35+yearsoldduringtheperiodoffiscalyears1996/97
4、to2002/03.PatientswithhypertensioninPhysicianClaimsandInpatientDischargeAbstractdatabaseswereidentifiedusingICD-9-CMcodes(401.x,402.x,403x,404.x,405.x)andICD-10-CAcodes(I10.x,I11.x,I12.x,I13.x,I15.x).Casewasdefinedasatleast2physicianclaimsor1hospitalizationin3years.Stratifiedanalyseswereconductedf
5、orhypertensionburdenandtrendbasedoncrudeandageandgenderstandardizedpopulationprevalence.Results(125words):Hypertensionprevalenceincreasedeachyearby2.10%.Theprevalencein1996/99was18.86%forcrudeprevalenceand18.90%forageandgenderstandardizedprevalence.Theprevalenceincreasedto27.25%and27.31%,respectiv
6、ely,by2000/03.65+yearsoldweremoreprevalentcomparedwith35-64yearsold.Theprevalenceestimatesfor35-64yearsoldwere12.52%forfemalesand11.98%formalesin1996/98.Theestimateswere51.13%forfemalesand45.06%formalesfor65+yearsoldin1996/98.By2000/03,theprevalencefor35-64yearsoldwas18.65%forbothfemalesandmales,a
