3、s:ahnsh@snu.ac.krAbstractMachiningisoneofthemostwidelyusedsubtractiveprocesses,andmanystudieshavereportedmethodstoimprovethequality,productivity,andeffectivenessoftheprocess.Moreover,inrecentyears,energyefficiencyhasbecomeanincreasinglyimportantconsiderat

4、ion,largelyasaresultofnewlegislationandstandardizationinresponsetoenvironmentalconcerns.However,theanalysisoftheenergyefficiencyofmachinetoolsisnotstraightforwardbecauseofthecomplexityofthecomponentsandprocess.Thisstudycomparedthepowerefficiencyofvariousm

5、achiningprocessesatdifferentscales.Here,powerefficiencyisdefinedastheratiooftheprocesspowertothetotalpowerconsumption,anditwascalculatedusingexperimentalresultsfromconventionalmilling,micro-scaledrilling,andbrushing.Thecalculatedpowerefficiencyiscomparedf

6、ortheprocessesreportedhere,aswellaswithselectedpublisheddata.Wefoundthatthepowerefficiencyvariedregardlessofmachiningscalesorspecificenergyconsumed,andalsocanvarywidelyintermsoftheperipheraldevicesused.Moreover,forthecaseoflaser-assistantmachining,thepres

7、entpowerefficiencymetricdecreasedasthecuttingloaddecreased.Therefore,itisneedtoconsidertheeffectofthesurroundingenvironmentandeffectivenessofmachining,andsuggestionswereshownfortheconceptofnovelpowerefficiency.©2014PublishedbyElsevierB.V.OpenaccessunderCC
