3、rmedicineoverthelastthreedecadeseversincetheintroductionofthegammacameraasthemainimaginginstrument.Duetothenearidealnuclearpropertiessuchasgammaenergy,half-life,lackofbetaradiationandeasyavailabilityasaconvenientgeneratorsystematan99m99maffordablecostofTc,
4、itcanbereasonablyanticipatedthatTcwillcontinuetoretainthispositionintheforeseeablefuture.Toalargeextentthishasbeenpossiblebecauseofthe99msuccessfuldevelopment,overtheyears,ofTcradiopharmaceuticalsassubstitutesforother99mclinicallywellestablishedagents.Exam
5、plesofthesesuccessstoriesareTcsubstitutesfor131201123Ihippuranandrosebengal,TlandIbrainperfusionagents,whichhavecometobe99mknowncollectivelyas‘secondgenerationTcradiopharmaceuticals’.Itshouldbeacknowledgedthateachoneofthesedevelopmentswasaresultofinnovativ
6、eandsustainedresearchanddevelopmenteffortsbyscientistsfromdifferentpartsoftheworld.Concurrentlytheseresearcheffortshavemadesignificantcontributionstobetterunderstandingofthe99mradiochemistryandco-ordinationchemistryofTc.Theradiopharmaceuticalscientistsare9
7、9mnowinamuchbetterpositiontodesign,prepareandevaluateTccomplexesforspecific99mapplications.Buildingonthiscapability,thenextstepisdevelopmentofTcsubstitutesforreceptorspecificradiopharmaceuticals,whichhaveestablishedclinicalpotential.Effortsin99mthisdirecti
