2、hisproblem,wecreatemodelstoexplainit.Atfirstwecreateasimpleandcomprehensiblemodeltoquicklyandcoarselyestimatethisproblemwithfingerprintspatterns.It’seasytoseethatourfingerprintsvaryingeneralpatterns.Therearecommonly9patternsinourfingerprints.Assumethatwecandistinguishckindsoffingerprintsina

3、certainpatternforsampledpopulationA.WiththevarietyofparametercandA,wegetaninterestingconclusionthatevenwecandistinguishahugeamountoffingerprintsinacertainpattern(c=1000billion)foralocalcity’spopulation(A=30million),theprobabilityoftwoormorepeoplehavethesamefingerprints,orsimilarexactly,isne

4、arly100%.Toobtainanavailablemodel,wecreateanadvancedmodelmorestrictlyandprecisely.Theridgesandfurrowsinfingerprinthavesomesimilarcharacteristics.Weselect3kindsofminutiaepointsincludingtheirnumbers,positionsanddirectionsanddevelopastatisticalalgorithmtocalculatetheuniquenessoffingerprints.Th

5、eansweristhatfingerprintsareunique,asexpected!Thosetwomodelsareunderaprimaryassumptionthatallcharacteristicsofagivenfingerprintcanbewellrecognized.But,ifthefingerprintsathandaremostlyincomplete,pollutedordistorted,oddsofmisidentificationwilloccur.Basedonoursecondmodel,weanalyzehowtheincompl

6、etenessanddistortionofminutiaepointsinfluenceprecisionoffingerprintsidentification,andobtainsomeessentialrequirementsforacceptablefingerprintsidentification.InordertocompareoddsofmisidentificationbyfingerprintevidenceandthatbyDNA,wedevelopamodeltoanalyzetheidentificationbyDNAevidence.Restri
