3、stwasaccordedtoFreud'sdiscoveriesinthedomainoftheunconscious.Whenafteryearsofpatientobservations,hefinallydecidedtoappearbeforemedicalbodiestotellthemmodestlyofsomefactswhichalwaysrecurredinhisdreamandhispatients'dreams,hewasfirstlaughedatandthenavoidedasacrank.Thewords"dreaminterpretation"we
4、reandstillareindeedfraughtwithunpleasant,unscientificassociations.Theyremindoneofallsortsofchildish,superstitiousnotions,whichmakeupthethreadandwoofofdreambooks,readbynonebuttheignorantandtheprimitive.Thewealthofdetail,theinfinitecarenevertoletanythingpassunexplained,withwhichhepresentedtothe
5、publictheresultofhisinvestigations,areimpressingmoreandmoreserious-mindedscientists,buttheexaminationofhisevidentialdatademandsarduousworkandpresupposesanabsolutelyopenmind.Thisiswhywestillencountermen,totallyunfamiliarwithFreud'swritings,menwhowerenoteveninterestedenoughinthesubjecttoattempt
6、aninterpretationoftheirdreamsortheirpatients'dreams,deridingFreud'stheoriesandcombattingthemwiththehelpofstatementswhichhenevermade.Someofthem,likeProfessorBorisSidis,reachattimesconclusionswhicharestrangelysimilartoFreud's,butintheirignoranceofpsychoanalyticliterature,theyfailtocreditFreudfo
