3、helawoftheUnionthecommitmentssetoutintheStockholmConventiononPersistentOrganicPollutants(hereinafter‘theConvention’)approvedbyCouncilDecision2006/507/EC(2),onbehalfoftheCommunity,andintheProtocoltothe1979ConventiononLong-RangeTransboundaryAirPollutiononPersistentOrganicPollutants(hereinafter‘th

4、eProtocol’)approvedbyCouncilDecision2004/259/EC(3),onbehalfoftheCommunity.(2)AtthefourthmeetingoftheConferenceofthePartiestotheConventionfrom4to8May2009,itwasagreedtoaddchlordecone,hexabromobiphenyl,hexachlorocyclohexanes,includinglindane,pentachlorobenzene,tetrabromodiphenylether,pentabromodip

5、henylether,hexabromodiphenyletherandheptabromodiphenylether,aswellasperfluorooctanesulfonicacidanditsderivatives(hereinafter‘PFOS’)totheAnnexestotheConvention.(3)InviewofconcernsregardingthecompletenessandrepresentativenessofscientificinformationonquantitiesandconcentrationsofthePOPbrominateddi

6、phenylethersandPFOSinarticlesandwastes,thosesubstanceswereprovisionallylistedinAnnexesIVandVtoRegulation(EC)No850/2004withoutanindicationofthemaximumconcentrationlimits.(4)AdditionalscientificdataonquantitiesandconcentrationsofthePOPbrominateddiphenylethersandPFOSinarticlesandwasteshasnowbeenas

7、sessed.ItisthereforenecessarytoestablishmaximumconcentrationlimitsforthesepersistentorganicpollutantswithoutunduedelayinordertoensureauniformapplicationofRegulation(EC)No850/2004andtoavoidacontinuousreleaseofthosesubstancesintothe
