3、racteristicsareapplicabletoacertaindiscipline．Therefore，thisresearchestablishestwocorpora(about2millionrunningwords)andtriestOdiscoverthesimilaritiesanddifferencesinbundleuseinEnglishacademicwritingofAppliedLinguisticsbyChinesepostgraduatesandNSexperts．Basedonthecorporaretrieval，thetop50

4、four-wordlexicalbundlesareidentifiedandthenclassifiedintermsofstructuresandfunctions．Quantitativeandqualitativeanalysesareconductedtoexplorethedistribution，frequency,structuralandfunctionalcharacteristicsoflexicalbundlesamongthetwogroupsofwriters．Resultsshowthattheoveralldistributions(bo

5、thstructuresandfunctions)ofthetop50four-wordlexicalbundlesaresimilaramongstudentandexpertwriters．Howevertheyrelyondifferentlexicalbundleresources．StudentstendtooveruseVP．basedpatternsandaviodrelative-clausepatternscomparedwiththeircounterparts．Furtherstructuralandfunctionalanalysesreveal

6、moreproblemsinEnglishacademicwritingbyChinesepostgraduates：1．negativetransferinlexicalbundlesfromChinese；2．theabsenceofpragmaticqu{山t)roflexicalbundles；3．inappropriatebundleselectionsinfluencedbytheiridentityasnoviceresearchersThesefindingsshowthatproblemsstillexistinpostgraduates’bundle
