3、areratherauthoritative.Inthetranslationpractice,however,howshouldweselecttheso-calledtranslationstandardstoserveasourguidelinesinthetranslationprocessandhowshouldweadoptthetranslationstandardstoevaluateatranslationproduct?Inthemacro-contextofflourishoflinguistictheories,theoristsinthetra
4、nslationcircle,keeptothegoldenlawoftheprincipleofequivalence.ThetheoryofTranslationEquivalenceisthecentralissueinwesterntranslationtheories.Andthepresentationofthistheorygivesgreatimpetustothedevelopmentandimprovementoftranslationtheory.It’snotdifficultforustodiscoverthatitisthetheoryofT
5、ranslationEquivalencethatservesasguidelinesingovernmentnametranslationinChina.Nametranslation,asdefined,isthereplacementofthenameinthesourcelanguagebyanequivalentnameorotherwordsinthetargetlanguage.TranslatingChinesegovernmentnamesintoEnglish,similarly,isreplacingtheChinesegovernmentname
6、withanequivalentinEnglish.Metaphoricallyspeaking,translationisoftendescribedasamovingtrajectorygoingfromAtoBalongapathoracontainertocarrysomethingacrossfromAtoB.ThisviewiscommonlyheldbybothtranslationpractitionersandtheoristsintheWest.Inthisview,theydonotexpectthatthistrajectoryorsomethi
