4、inginEnglishwhichbecomesablockforthestudentstolearnEnglishwell.Therefore,thestudyofpolysemyacquisitionbecomesoneofthemostdifficultandmajorpointsintheprocessofEnglishteachingandlearning.Thestudyofpolysemydrawsmanyscholars’attentionandhasaverylonghistory.Thetraditionallinguistsputemphasison
5、thestructureofvocabularyandignorethedifferentsensesofpolysemouswordswhichmakespolysemyteachingmoredifficult.Withthedevelopmentofcognitivelinguistics,prototypecategorytheorybecomesatopconcerninEnglishlearning.Andtheprototypecategorytheoryhasofferedaveryhelpfulmeanstopolysemyacquisitionfort
6、helearners.Untilnowadays,underthehelpofprototypecategorytheory,alotofresearchesconcentrateontheexpansionofvariousmeaningsofpolysemouswords.Onthecontrary,fewstudieshaveattemptedtoexplorethepolysemyacquisitionofstudentsinmiddleschoolinanempiricalway.Therefore,inthispaper,anempiricalstudyisc
