3、hosethecityofSalvadorasourstudylocationasithasahighlyindigenouspopulation,60%ofitscitizensareemployedintheservicesectoranditisrepresentativeofthedemographicmakeupofBahia.ItalsoreflectsBrazil’sculturalmoresbasedonHofstede’sculturaldimensions(1980)ofhighpowerdistance,collectivism,highuncertainty
4、avoidance,femininity,andamoderatelong-termorientation,asindicatedbyapre-testof100nativeSalvadoriansconductedpriortothestudy.MethodsSampleFivehotelsinSalvador,Brazilcomprisedthestudylocations.Thehotelswereselectedtoachievediversitywithinthesamplealongseveraldimensions.Thebusinessmodelsincludedl
5、ocallyownedoperations,nationalhotelchainmembersandsoleproprietorshipstoallowvarietyintypeofestablishment.Hotelslocatedinbothruralandurbansettingsindifferentsegmentsofthecitywereusedtooptimizevariability.Hotelclasslevelsincluded2-,3-and4-staroperations.Hotelsrangedinsizefrom30roomsto1,000rooms.
